Theatreworks Live Winter 2021 Classes

We are thrilled to announce our Winter Classes for 2021!

We’ve got some great shows planned to keep theatre going safely.   We may not be back in the rehearsal room or on the stage quite yet, but we can still rehearse, perform, and celebrate the magic of theatre!  Our classes this winter will be virtual.  We have 2 shows that will push our virtual skills to the next level!  We want to be in-person, but we know this is the safest way we can keep kids performing.  We had an amazing fall and really can’t wait to see these 2 new shows.

Due to filming and editing requirements for these shows, we will not be streaming performance on the same dates as usual.  Cast members may not be called to each rehearsal.  Each show will have a different streaming time and will require tickets to stream.

ENROLLMENT WILL BE LIMITED AND WE EXPECT TO FILL UP QUICKLY.

Or did they? Enter eager, determined, and untested Detective Case. After sequestering the guests into separate rooms (because, you know, social-distancing), she gets down to finding out whodunnit, uncovering secret affairs, life-long grudges, backstage drama, and a lot of musical theater song and dance. Sifting through lies and red herrings and a truly baffling murder mystery script left by the deceased, Case vows to find the truth and secure her future as a great detective. Character Breakdown
Varthur McArthur (Male)
Once a Gavroche on Broadway (and not seen on Broadway since), this director is now in Middle America bringing culture to Philistines. Pompous, arrogant, loves being a big fish in a little town.

Justine Case (Female)
Traffic Enforcement Officer, promoted to detective when everyone else on the force is unavailable. Everyone has disdain for him/her because he/she has ticketed them all. He/She is a loyal patron and secret fan of the theatre. They don’t know he/she discounts their tickets

Clarke Staples (Male or Female)
Has been working as a stage manager, as well as doing box office and concessions and clerical work for Varthur for ten years. Beleaguered and loyal.

Shea Crescendo (Female)
Works at theater full-time – costumes, sets, a visionary with too few resources. Shea goes all the way with everything they do – design or in their role in the murder mystery dinner

Vivika Orsonwelles (Female)
Pharmacist by day, star by night. When she finds out that Lily, an ambitious upstart, is playing the lead in the murder mystery dinner party, she is fuming.

George Murderer (Male)
He’s a trust-fund kid. And fancies himself a musical theater writer. In fact, he believes he has written the next Hamilton. The AD has been stringing him along, taking his family’s money, making him think that they would be doing his musical next. When the cast list went out and it wasn’t for his musical, he was livid.

Lily Wright (Female)
Real Estate Broker by day and aspiring leading lady by night. She’s tired of playing second fiddle to Vivika. She wants her own spotlight and tonight she’s finally gotten it.

Cameron Mitchelljohn (Male or Female)
Cameron took off work tonight – as a cater/waiter – because Varthur promised him a speaking part in the Murder Mystery. Only, lo and behold, he’s playing the Steward – so she’s still taking coats and serving canapes.

Joan McArthur (Female)
An estate lawyer (and Varthur’s wife) who has banked this entire theater venture and she’s fed up. She’s been trying to sell the building and everything they own goes to her in Varthur’s will.

Jeremy Jordan (Male)
Fantasy version of himself

Detective Case (Female)
A latter day version of Justine; A grand dame of police work.
